The Concept

The concept sounded simple: Make a Disco Dance Floor for Gav and Anna's wedding, something in the style of the MIT affair that was doing the rounds on the internet. Soon more user requirements flooded in from the brain of AndyT including 'being large enough to play pacman on' and 'be suitable for a game of Tetris' - All seemingly important considerations for a dance floor which were just increasing the complexity.
Ideas were borrowed from the guys over at solderlab.de , and a grand arrangement of ping pong balls, RGB LEDs, wood and polycarbonate was envisaged.

Then there was the practicality of it: The floor had to be transported from Winchester to Kendal, be able to be assembled in a short amount of time (with some flexibility on how long 'short' could be!), and most of all work - and not break. Oh, and it was going to be a surprise, funded entirely out of the pockets of the construction team along with a tight budget and a fixed deadline. Sounds fun!
